Colony House

What if your team actually showed up excited, prepared, and ready to bring their best every single service? Colony House has built one of the most legendary team cultures in the music industry, where crew, band members, and opening acts all feel like they’re part of something special. What they’ve learned directly applies to worship teams, too.

In this episode, Colony House’s guitarist, Scott Mills, shares the intentional practices that create high-energy, all-in cultures where people want to show up and give their best. This isn’t a myth either. If you’ve ever seen one of their infectious live shows, you know they’ve built something special.

You’ll discover:

  • Why the 6-8 hours around the set are your greatest culture-building opportunity

  • The simple pre-show habit that creates instant camaraderie and buy-in (takes less than 10 minutes)

  • How to make every team member, from sound tech to lead vocalist, feel like they belong

  • What Scott learned from touring with bands who got this right (and a few who didn’t)

If you’re ready to build a team culture people are proud to be part of, where everyone’s bought in, engaged, and bringing their A-game, this conversation will show you how.

About Colony House

Colony House is an American indie rock band from Franklin, Tennessee. They’re known for infectious melodies, honest lyrics, and guitar-driven energy. The band includes brothers Caleb and Will Chapman, alongside Scott Mills and Parke Cottrell. Caleb leads vocals and guitar, Will anchors drums, Scott on guitar, and Parke covers bass and keys. Colony House thrives on chemistry shaped by friendship, family, and shared history.

Origins and Growth

The members of Colony House began playing together in 2009 while still in high school. They originally performed under the name Caleb before officially becoming Colony House in 2013. The band’s name came from an apartment complex where they once lived together. Early EP releases helped them define their sound and identity. Touring relentlessly helped Colony House grow a loyal and engaged fanbase.

Early Records and Breakthrough

Colony House released their debut album, When I Was Younger, in 2014. The record introduced their energetic indie rock style to a wider audience. The single “Silhouettes” became a defining moment for the band. In 2017, they followed with Only the Lonely, expanding their songwriting depth. These records established Colony House as a band with both heart and momentum.

Creative Expansion

In 2020, Colony House released Leave What’s Lost Behind, leaning into bigger themes and more cinematic arrangements. The album reflected personal growth and creative risk. In 2023, they followed with The Cannonballers, a lively and youthful record.

77: A New Chapter (2025–26)

The album 77 represents a reflective and intentional season for Colony House. The first half of the project released in 2025, featuring seven carefully connected songs. The record explores forgiveness, belief, and the tension between past and future. Sonically, 77 leans into raw band performances and thoughtful restraint. Colony House uses the symbolism of seventy-seven to anchor the album’s emotional and spiritual themes.

Looking Ahead

Part two of 77 is planned for release in early 2026, completing the project’s full arc. Together, both halves form a unified statement rather than separate releases. The pacing invites deeper listening and reflection. This chapter shows Colony House embracing maturity without losing joy or edge. The album highlights how far the band has come creatively.

Live Presence and Identity

Colony House is widely known for energetic, emotionally charged live performances. Their shows feel communal and immersive. Touring has remained central to their growth and storytelling. The band consistently blurs the line between performance and shared experience. Colony House continues to connect deeply with audiences through authenticity and presence.

What Defines Colony House

At its core, Colony House writes songs about growth, honesty, and connection. Their music balances faith, doubt, hope, and realism. Strong relational foundations shape everything they create. Each record reflects a different chapter of the same story. Colony House stands as a band committed to meaningful art and long-term creativity.
