Andy Cherry
What happens when your worship leading platform grows faster than your character can hold it… and the thing you dreamed of starts costing you what matters most?
In this episode, Keith chats with Andy Cherry, a seasoned worship leader, songwriter, and current touring musician for Brandon Lake, for a raw conversation on identity, shame and calling. Andy shares his whirlwind early career—signing a record deal in his 20s, walking away to fight for his marriage, and the painful (but formative) season of learning to lead when nobody’s clapping.
Then it gets personal: the moment Andy realized he wasn’t being motivated by God… but by shame—”like you write yourself a letter and forge God’s signature on it.”
If you’ve ever felt disqualified, stuck, or afraid to step out again, this will reset your perspective.

About Your Guest
Andy Cherry is a worship leader, songwriter, and musician who has spent years serving the Church both on stage and behind the scenes. Early in his career, Andy released music and led worship in large gatherings before intentionally stepping away from the spotlight to prioritize family and long-term faithfulness in ministry.
Over the past decade, Andy has continued writing and collaborating across the worship community, contributing songs recorded by Passion, Josh Baldwin, and others while helping shape projects for fellow artists. Today, he serves at Seacoast Church and travels as musical director and acoustic guitarist for Brandon Lake.
In this conversation on the Worship Online Podcast, Andy shares about stepping away from platform-driven momentum, rediscovering identity outside of public ministry, and writing music from a deeper place of fatherhood and legacy.
Stepping Away From the Spotlight
At a time when many artists would have continued building a platform, Andy made the intentional decision to slow down and prioritize his family. In this episode, he talks about the internal wrestle that came with that choice and how redefining success reshaped his understanding of calling, ministry, and faithfulness.
Writing Songs Behind the Scenes
Even during the quieter years between releases, Andy remained deeply involved in songwriting and creative collaboration. Through years of writing sessions and even Instagram Live songwriting streams, he continued helping shape songs for the wider Church, including work connected with Passion and other worship artists.
Andy also reflects on contributing to projects for fellow leaders like Pat Barrett, sharing what it looks like to build something meaningful while serving someone else’s vision.
Leading in One Room, Following in Another
Andy now serves in multiple roles across ministry contexts. At Seacoast Church he helps lead and shepherd the local church, while on the road he serves as vocalist and acoustic player for Brandon Lake.
Andy shares what it looks like to move between leading and following and why learning to support another leader’s vision has shaped his understanding of healthy leadership.
Songs for My Son
Andy’s newest music reflects the season of life he is in today. His upcoming project, Songs For My Son Vol. 1, is inspired by fatherhood and the desire to pass down truth, faith, and identity to the next generation.
His newest single, “The Good Stuff,” captures the heart behind this project, reminding listeners that the things that matter most are often the ones that happen far away from the spotlight.
