The Rock Music

Your worship team isn’t just playing music. You’re teaching theology and shaping hearts. So why are we settling for cover versions of songs when the church should be leading the world in creativity?

For centuries, the church birthed the world’s greatest art: Bach’s masterpieces, Handel’s Messiah, hymns that shaped nations. But somewhere along the way, we stopped creating and started copying. Steele Croswhite, who toured with Foo Fighters and Maroon 5 before Jesus transformed his life, believes it’s time to reclaim our creative calling.

After 20 years of ministry, Steele has built something revolutionary: a church where worship teams don’t just play songs, they craft theological experiences that connect hearts to truth.

In this episode, discover:

  • Why worship leaders are actually theology teachers (and how your arrangements matter)

  • How the church went from creative pioneer to cultural follower and how to reverse it

  • The “Love God, Bless Saints, Win Lost” framework that transforms both music and hearts

  • The practical steps to help your musicians find their God-given voice

Listen now to hear what happens when creativity meets theology.

“The best bands in the world should come from the local church, because we’re not just making music. We’re making disciples.” – Steele Croswhite

About The Rock Music

The Rock Music is a worship collective birthed out of The Rock Church in suburban Salt Lake City. For more than two decades, The Rock Music has been creating original Christian music for their local church and beyond. Their heartbeat is simple but bold: write, record, and perform Christ-centered songs without compromise. Rooted in real pastoral ministry, The Rock Music serves as an extension of their church’s mission to share the hope and grace of Jesus in Utah. They carry that mission into a region with among the fewest Bible-believing Christians in the country.

Mission in the Heart of Utah

Based in Salt Lake City, The Rock Music exists right in the middle of a predominantly LDS culture. Their church is intentionally reaching people from Mormon and post-Mormon backgrounds with the biblical Jesus. The Rock Music supports that outreach by giving new believers language to worship through original songs of grace, hope, and restoration. Their music is not a side project, it is woven into week-to-week discipleship and local church life. Every release reflects their desire to see people encounter Jesus through both sound and story.

Catalog and Creative Output

Over the years, The Rock Music has released thirteen full-length recordings and seven EPs, spanning a range of modern worship styles. Their catalog includes projects like Awakened By Hope, Your Love Remains, and The Future Is Sure. They have also offered standout singles such as Mercy, All Around, Loved Me At My Worst, and No One Knows Me Like You. The Rock Music describes itself as a genre-spanning collaboration of musicians, focused on relevant, Christ-centered songs that still feel honest and raw. Each project aims to sound like their actual community, not a copy of someone else’s church.

Captured By Grace and the 20-Year Story

A key milestone for The Rock Music is Captured By Grace, first released in 2005 during the early days of their ministry. In 2025 they commemorated more than twenty years of songwriting and worship with Captured By Grace (20 Year Deluxe Edition). The collection features newly reimagined versions of songs from that original record, led by founder Steele Croswhite and other worship leaders from the church. The project celebrates how Jesus has transformed lives through The Rock Church and The Rock Music over two decades. It also marks a full-circle moment for Steele, who moved from mainstream rock frontman to pastor and worship leader after encountering the grace of Christ.

Ongoing Impact

Today, The Rock Music continues to function as an independent movement of musicians within their local church, rather than a distant label project. They see excellence and creativity as tools to serve their congregation, bless the saints, and reach the lost. The Rock Music keeps writing songs that speak to real people in Utah while remaining deeply anchored in Scripture and the gospel. Their vision is that some of the best bands in the world would come from the local church and stay in the local church. Everything they create points back to the same goal: helping people encounter Jesus through powerful, uncompromising worship from the heart of Utah.
